Mike Moran serves as General Counsel and as a Staff Instructor for On Guard Defense Training Center. He is currently an author, master firearms instructor, armorer, adjunct professor, attorney, judicial security specialist, and wilderness first responder (WFR). He has developed and honed these positions over his 30 years’ protecting people in various legal, law enforcement, private security, lifeguarding, and military roles while serving agencies and officials of the State of Ohio, Franklin County, and other counties, cities, and villages throughout Central Ohio. As a private practicing attorney for over two decades with a firearms/self-defense focus, over his career he has also performed duties including: Chief Bailiff/Court Constable, Director of Mediation, Chief Municipal Prosecutor, Magistrate, Chief Counsel, Licensed Private Investigator, Security Supervisor, Special Deputy, State Investigator, Special Prosecutor, Protective Detail Team Leader, Security Driver, Special Counsel, Off Duty Law Enforcement (ODLE) Site Manager, OPOTA Guest Instructor, Judge Advocate, and Inspector General. He is an active NRA Police/Private Security Handgun/Shotgun Instructor, an NRA Training Counselor/Instructor for six disciplines, an NRA Chief Range Safety Officer, an AFT/ShootSafe Master Defensive Handgun Instructor, and a State of Ohio (OPOTC) Law Enforcement Firearms Instructor holding instructional credentials for handguns, shotguns, and rifles, along with a variety of other defensive and weapons systems. He retired as a Colonel in 2012 from the Ohio Military Reserve after service in the MP and Judge Advocate branches. As a tactician, Mike believes that developing a mindset of situational awareness will allow good citizens the discernment to avoid a multitude of dangerous situations. As a trained mediator and crisis interventionist, he believes all good citizens should use excellent verbalization and de-escalation skills to peacefully resolve most disputes, before force is employed. As an instructor, Mike has a passion for teaching a variety of firearms, self-defense, tactical and wilderness emergency care courses for OGD to ensure good people are self-reliant citizens. He leads the Center’s legal and compliance programs associated with running a commercial shooting range and training facility.
