Intro to Defensive Rifle 

Skill Level: Beginner/Entry Level

Prerequisites: None

Objective: Students will learn the differences between standard rifles and Modern Sporting Rifles (MSRs) and understand why MSRs are preferred for personal and home defense.

Course Description: This is a non-shooting course that introduces students to a variety of rifle systems, components and accessories available for the purposes of hunting, engaging in shooting sports or for home defense. This is an entry level course and geared to empower students with the knowledge they need when selecting a rifle to purchase and maintain for their individual needs. This course consists of 60% lecture, 30% hands-on activities (manipulate gear, review optics, reliability & practicality of accessories); and, 10% discussion (Q&A).

Course topics include:

  • Definition and description of common terminology used when working with MSRs;
  • Breakdown (disassembly) and reassembly of various MSRs;
  • Understanding the advantages and disadvantages of carbine vs. full length rifle systems;
  • Discussion comparing Optics and Back Up Iron Sights (BUIS);
  • Reviewing different options for sustainment packs, ammunition, magazines, stocks and slings (and the pros and cons to each);
  • Introduction to the AR pistol; and,
  • Care & cleaning of your guns & gear.

Items Required for Class: A positive attitude and willingness to learn! You might also want to bring a pad of paper & pen for note-taking.

Session Length: Four (4) Hours

Date:  Saturday, August 3 from 8:00 A.M. - 12:00 P.M. (Noon)

Cost: $75.00 per student plus tax
