Night Vision

public gun range

If you've got night vision gear but no place to train, On Guard Defense has you covered!  We're opening our range for a limited time after dark so you can train in low light / no light scenarios under the direct supervision of our instructors and range safety officers.

Suppressors are encouraged, but not required.  NV gear is available for rental for $100 (you buy or supply your own ammo separately). Rental is available first come, first served.  For the fall/winter schedule, check in and range briefing begins at 5:00 P.M., followed by low light (white light) shooting.  When the lights go out, the NODs come out.

Refer to the registration form below for available dates to schedule your range time.  If you plan to stay in the Hocking Hills for the weekend, check out our Plan Your Trip page for local lodging and attractions.

Session Length: 2 - 3 Hours | Range Fee: $50

  • FAQs

Q: What is the range fee for the night shoot?
A: The range fee for the night shoot is $50 (does not include dates when hosting Team Anvil). The range session start and end time varies depending on the time of year and includes a range briefing and equipment check prior to getting started.

Q: Do you provide ammunition for the night shoot?
A: Ammunition is not included in the range fee for the night shoot. You may bring your own ammo or purchase some at the range. No green tip or armor piercing rounds because they will destroy our AR500 steel targets.

Q: Do I need NV-capable optics on my rifle?
A: You will not be able to use most optical sights with night observation devices (NODs). You can use your rifle and lighted optics with a weapon mounted flashlight on the secondary range.

Q: What equipment is included in the rental?
A: The equipment rental includes a Team Wendy EXFIL bump helmet, equipped with a Wilcox L4 G24 Mount and a white phosphor PVS-14 monoptical image tube, AR15 equipped with NV capable optic (EOTECH or Promethean LP-1). We will also include eye and ear protection at no additional charge since most headphone type ear protection will not fit under the bump helmet.

Q: Can I use my pistol / tactical flashlight during the night shoot?
A: If you have night vision capable sights on your pistol, you can use your pistol during the night shoot on the main range. If you want to try out your white light and standard sights, you can do so on the secondary range.

Q: What training will be offered during these sessions?
A: On Guard Defense will provide Range Safety Officers that will conduct a briefing on how to use the night vision equipment, check that all gear is serviceable and provide a range safety briefing before dusk. The range portion of these sessions not part of a training session, but we can configure various courses of fire based on the quantity and skill set of the shooters. Our May 13 and October 14 night shoots will offer training by Team Anvil, at additional cost.

Q: Where can I purchase Night Vision gear?
A: On Guard Defense uses Steele Industries for all of our Night Vision Gear. The Night Fighter Package is typically ready to ship within days.
